Introduction:

Sodium oleate is a pale yellow paste, a compound composed of a hydrophobic group and a hydrophilic group. It has excellent emulsifying, penetrating, and detergency properties, and is well soluble in hot water. Its aqueous solution is a pale yellow, transparent, alkaline liquid. It is soluble in ethanol and the solution is neutral. It is insoluble in benzene and ethe and slowly oxidizes in air, causing the color to darken.

Uses:

Chemically pure sodium oleate is used for mineral processing, fabric waterproofing, soap making, and as an anionic surfactant and fabric waterproofing agent; analytically pure (AR) sodium oleate is used to activate protein kinase C in liver cells.
